Weddings

Marrying in church is personal, meaningful and spiritual - just as you would want it to be. Churches are special and unique places to get married in - the prayers, promises and the whole service of celebration become part of your marriage, on the day itself and beyond.

Almighty God, in whom we live and move and have our being, look graciously upon the world which you have made and for which your Son gave his life, and especially on all whom you make to be one flesh in holy marriage. May their lives together be a sign of your love to this broken world, so that unity may overcome estrangement, forgiveness heal guilt, and joy overcome despair; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We are delighted to receive enquiries about getting married at Saint Anne’s. Like any Anglican parish church, we are required to observe certain legal rules when it comes to marriages and we are happy to discuss these with you.

If you would like to get married at Saint Anne’s, then you

  • Or if you live in another parish, you will need to attend St Anne’s for at least 6 months before you can get married here,

  • Or need to have a connection to the parish (either have been baptized here, or have a parent or grandparent who belonged here).

You can get married at any time of the day and on most days of the week. Please note that weddings do not take place during Lent (from Ash Wednesday to Easter). This is a solemn time of year as we prepare to commemorate the death of Jesus and celebrate his resurrection.

The standard fee for a wedding at the moment is £618. This is set by the Church of England nationally and is the same for every church. This basic legal fee includes the cost of the Vicar, the Church, calling your banns, lighting and all administration.

There is an extra fee if you wish to have our organist play the piano/organ, and if you want to have your wedding professionally filmed.

If you are a British citizen and live within the parish, then you can be married after the calling of Banns. If you live in another parish, then you are married by a Common Licence. If you are a citizen of the EU or another non-EU country then you need to apply directly to Hackney Town Hall Register Office for a Superintendent’s Licence, before your wedding can be arranged.

Civicl Partnerships and Same Sex Weddings

St Anne’s is an inclusive community where LGBTi+ people are welcomed and affirmed. Our Vicar would be delighted to help you to prepare prayerfully for your Civil Partnership or Wedding.

Please contact our wardens: Kemi@Hoxton.Church and Sonia@Hoxton.Church

At the moment the Church of England does not permit the solemnisation of same-sex marriages. However, it will be possible very soon for same-sex couples to have their civil marriage blessed in Church and whilst this legislation doesn’t go as far as we would like, we are looking forward to celebrating the love of couples in this way.

to be clear, same-sex couples are very welcome at St Anne’s, and we shall endeavour to support you in your relationship through prayer and fellowship.

Please talk to the vicar, Andrew Jones, if you have any questions: vicar@hoxton.church
